June 16, 2020
Dear Friends and Ministry Partners,
Today, June 16, 2020, would have been the first day of class for us for school year 2020-2021. This campus would have been busy, lively and full of energy. With more than 600 students, this campus would have been a fun place to be at this very moment.
But since March 14, 2020, our gate has been locked. Our college students who lived in our dormitories were sent home. Classes in all levels were suspended because of the COVID-19 threat. It has been over three months now since we have been on a community quarantine. Our movement has been very limited. We are faced with a lot of uncertainty just like any other place and country around the world.
Schools are facing the unknown especially that next school year 2020-2021 is still uncertain, though initially classes have been moved to start on August 24, 2020, as per the directive of the Department of Education. If and when classes will start in August, there will be no “face-to-face” classroom instruction. Distance learning and homeschooling will be the new learning approach. Our teaching staff has been busy navigating this new normal preparing learning packets and modules as well as familiarizing on-line learning platforms.
Effective June 1st we have started our enrollment. A few students have responded as of this writing. However, there are a number of parents in our basic education department who withdrew their children to transfer to public schools because a lot of them lost their jobs, businesses were affected, and life is just hard in general.
Since the lock down GBBC has struggled with finances to keep up with meeting the needs for staff salaries, maintenance, and utilities.
At this present time, God is teaching us to be still in His presence and trust His process.
We urge you to pray for and with us that God will grant us His wisdom and His provision as we journey through these very trying times. Specifically, please pray that our students will be able to enroll and that God will also provide sponsors for our students. Likewise, please help us pray for God’s provision for the technological equipment, like laptops, our teaching staff need for this new learning approach.
If God is leading you to be a student sponsor, please see attachment for more details. If you wish to help provide laptops for our teaching staff, you may send in any amount to GBIM, 100 Stinson Drive, Poplar Bluff, MO 63901. Please make sure to put GBBC on the memo line of your check.
Thank you very much for your continued support and prayers. May the grace of our Lord abound in and through you always.
Stay healthy, safe, and make the most of this time to draw closer to our sovereign God!
