India Medical Camp

Pastor Jessey reports a successful Medical Camp in the rural areas of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states in India. The medical camps were conducted in the villages of Thummileru and Ramanakkapet. The two camps were able to touch the lives of 456 people.

Local newspaper coverage

Pastor Jessey reports that the camps attracted media attention in both locations with local newspapers publishing articles in both locations. “Media was interested to know what we were doing and why we were doing it.”

The community of Thummileru was only accessible by boat.  The entire team, with supplies, had to take an hours boat ride in order to conduct the camp.

Pastor Jessey further explained that they had originally scheduled the camp for three days and three villages but ran out of medication after the second day.

Arriving by boat

Every day, 23,000 people die in India; 6,000 of those die due to lack of proper medical attention and the lack of medical facilities. According to the latest statistics, there is only one doctor for every 1,700 Indians. India is a nation of 1.3 billion people, and 70% of the population live in rural areas with inadequate or no medical programs. Sadly, this results in people dying from diseases which could easily have been treated with basic medication.

Responding to this pressing need, medical camps are conducted particularly in remote villages without access to medical facilities (like doctors and pharmacies nearby) or where people live below the poverty line and therefore can never afford to visit a doctor or a medical facility.

A typical medical camp cost $500 a day and may last for 2-3 days.  Calvary Grace has a goal to conduct several of these each year as funds are available.
