MBI Graduation – Weatherford Update

Greetings from the Philippines!  We have had a busy week with lots of fun and unfortunately, lots of good food!  We both have to put the brakes on our eating!

MBI, the Matigsalug Bible Institute, had the Learning Center recognition program, we had Baccalaureate, and graduation this week on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The learning Center, formerly called Kindergarten, had 12 , age 4-5, that will go on to Kindergarten, and 12 age 3-4 that will step up to the next level.  Our wonderful teacher Grace really had her hands full this year.

The program was unbelievable.  Those little children had memorized  many Bible verses, songs and greetings in English.  Every one of them could recite the pledge to allegiance, and sing the national anthem.  They put on a delightful program.

The Baccalaureate program for our three graduates was very moving as well. It was held on the stage  at the basketball court which  had been transformed by the brother of one of our students. They had thankfully, built a temporary canopy out from the stage to cover the guests on the basketball court, and the young man had taken royal blue, white and yellow gold fabric, his own, and draped it over the walls of the stage and the full length of the canopy.  It was a sight to behold, absolutely beautiful.  They also had lots of plants on the stage.  I never cease to be amazed at the creativity of the Filipino people.

The speakers had lots of distractions going on as they spoke, the rain poured and we all had to scoot our chairs in toward the middle to keep dry. The ducks, 14 in  all, came out to hunt bugs on the basketball court,  a mother hen and her 8 tiny chicks, and about 12 other chickens, a number of dogs, some who lay on the steps of the stage and napped.  We had plenty to watch.  Afterward there was a lovely meal for everyone.

On Wednesday graduation was held in the same location and again we had rain, but not quite as much.  Our three young men graduating were solemn and emotional and it was a challenging uplifting service with many speakers and prayers.  Each student received a new study Bible and a song book, plus awards of achievement.   And again, a tasty meal was served.

We had many honored guests attending graduation including Dr. Joyce Porcadilla, Kris and Nicole Yeoman and girls, barangay officials, former students and parents and friends and  families of the graduates.

It was a great two days and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Please continue to pray for all of us here that the Lord Jesus may be glorified.

Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more that all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us to Him be glory, in the Church and in Christ Jesus, throughout all generations, for ever and ever, amen Ephesians 3:20-21.

Yours in Christ,

Robert and Sherry Weatherford
